Courting has died...

It seems as though the older I get, the more I realize the MAN in gentleMAN has simply disappeared. It's sad to say, but I'm still waiting for the date that mimics something in an old time movie. So where have all these gentlemen gone? Who knows!! Every lady I speak with seems to feel the same way and the ones that don't are married to guys that do the things girls wish they did. I mean, call me old-fashioned but I don't kiss on a first date. If he wants it, he can ask me on a second date. And I don't expect him to be upset when I throw him the cheek. So today I asked my twitter friends to "Name things they wish guys still did on first dates." They are as follows, plus a few from yours truly....
1. Open Doors
2. Not be checking their phones
3. Walk you to your door
4. Pay for the check without that awkward me offering situation
5. Open the car door
6. Bring flowers
7. Order a bottle of wine
8. Have a genuine conversation
9. Don't ask me where I wanna go, have it planned
10. Dress up! Good Lord this isn't McDonald's.
11. You know we took forever to get ready, please notice.
12. Don't say you're going to call, if you aren't.
Trust me, we will both know if it went south and I won't be expecting or wanting a call.

Although somewhat blunt those are some things that men should try to think about before taking out a lady. By all means, I'm not saying this applies to all women because not all women will expect this. But if you are going on a date with a lady, you will know it and a lady is going to have standards.

Here's to wishing for dream dates.

Here's to hoping the actions of courting have not passed

and here's to chivalry and the idea that it is NOT dead.

  2. Love this post. Let's be honest, southern girls just like that old fashioned stuff....if you find one, ask him if he has an older brother: )

  3. I have actually been thinking about this a lot lately and you're so right! I keep wondering if it's the girls with lower standards that have changed how men treat women or if men have just become lazy. I'm an old fashioned girl at heart and will be holding out until the man who does all of the above comes along. Great post! xoxo

  4. Love it, love it! Numbers 9 and 12 are pet peeves of mine.

Even if you're a guy inviting your friend-who-happens-to-be-a-girl out to dinner/lunch/brunch, have a plan and don't leave it up to the guest. Planning, dear people! :)
